All of our camps are packed in a minimum of 3 miles from the nearest trailhead. We situate our camps 3-5 miles apart to give your group the best opportunity for an isolated hunt.
We provide riding and pack animals to transport you and your equipment to the designated campsite. We will check on you periodically during the hunt. No stock will be left in camp.
Any game must be quartered and packed to your camp, or a location near a trail that we can safely access with our stock.
Our drop and supplied camps can be up to 10-day hunts. See our “Suggested Packing List” under How To Pack.
An all inclusive hunt built for a rare opportunity. All camping equipment, meals and a cook/camp tender will be provided. All you need to pack is your hunting and personal gear. Deluxe hunts are 7 days (5 full days of hunting) with daily professional guide service.
Drop camp services may also be provided. Call for availability and pricing.
“I’ve used 10+ outfitters over the last 20 years and Sour Apple was hands down the most responsive and well-managed of all of them. They did exactly what they said they would do in the time frame they agreed to. I highly recommend if you are looking at a back country experience in their area!”
“Jacob, Monte, and crew were awesome! I’ve been on several outfitted wilderness elk hunts, and you guys (and gals) are hands down the best! You guys all have such a great (can do attitude!) Really appreciated all your hard work and effort on our behalf this year, and can’t wait to repeat.”
“After fifteen plus years of hiking, backpacking and summer drop camps in the Eagle Cap Wilderness I was pleased to connect with Sour Apple Outfitters in 2023. I already have a trip booked in 2024, and another one planned.”
“This was my first pack in elk hunt so I had a ton of questions. Jacob and Ashley were extremely fast at responding and very easy to get ahold of. They both went above and beyond to make sure I had thebest possible experience. Monte and Tyrel were laughing and joking with us on the ride to and from camp, they were both fantastic. I can’t say enough good things about Sour Apple Outfitters. They have a top-notch crew and I will definitely be booking again. Jacob, Ashley, and the crew made it a hunt I will remember for a lifetime.”
“SourApple Outfitters was incredibly accommodating, professional, and enjoyable to collaborate with during our two Elk camps this summer and fall. Witnessing a diligent American family passionately manage their dream business was a great experience, as they consistently went above and beyond. We are fortunate to have them as our outfitter and will continue to support their awesome family-run business.”
“We went out with Sour Apple this year, 2023. They are incredibly easy to communicate with and they have quick follow up. Our group tagged out on the trip. The day before our pack out date, we dropped a bull cross canyon and had a full day and nights work ahead of us. I made a call to Jacob and hatched a plan that complicated camp pack out, but he helped us retrieve the elk in a much easier manner. Sour Apple went above and beyond to help us out. Highly recommend… we will back!”
In the fall of 2022, long time family friends, Shawn & Shelly Steen (Steen's Wilderness Adventures) chose to take a step back from the business and offered us the opportunity to build on their traditions and legacy as outfitters. We are honored to have the opportunity to continue to provide exceptional outfitting services in this remote corner of Wallowa County!
